Seven Nigerian undergraduates will each walk away with ₦5 million at a Lagos ceremony on Tuesday, as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Rite Foods Limited jointly reward exceptional academic performance from the 2025 admission exercise at the maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony.
JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, stated on Sunday that “each of the seven award recipients will receive ₦5 million in recognition of their exceptional performance in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the respective Post UTME or institutional screening exercises conducted by their admitting Universities.”
The Board revealed that beneficiaries emerged through a transparent, rigorous, and merit based selection process. Six recipients represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with the seventh award designated for the highest performing admitted candidate living with a disability.
Institutions represented span the country’s regions: the University of Lagos (South West), the University of Uyo (South South), the Federal University of Technology Owerri (South East), the Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia (North West), the University of Maiduguri (North East), and the Federal University of Technology Minna (North Central).
The University of Lagos stands as the only Institution with two recipients in this inaugural edition, as the candidate nominated under the disability category is also drawn from the same University.
The Board disclosed that the ceremony is expected to attract 300 participants, among them the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar Prof. Isahq Oloyede, Vice Chancellors, heads of regulatory agencies, principal officers of Tertiary Institutions, education stakeholders, development partners, corporate leaders, students, and media representatives.
JAMB added that the partnership with Rite Foods underscores both organisations’ shared commitment to rewarding merit and motivating young Nigerians to pursue academic achievement.
