Nigeria’s foremost examination body prepares for a leadership transition this week, as Professor Segun Aina officially resumes duty as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The 15 years of experience Aina brings to the role, according to the Presidency, spans advisory work with federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms and systems design, positioning him to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the appointment in an earlier statement, describing the incoming Registrar as one of Nigeria’s youngest Professors of Computer Engineering and, notably, set to become the youngest person to hold the JAMB Registrar position.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Aina’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He additionally completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
His consulting portfolio extends to examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, where he focused on ICT systems and examination integrity, areas the Presidency noted as central to his expertise in digital infrastructure and national examination systems.
JAMB confirmed that Friday’s handover ceremony, scheduled for 10am, would be streamed live across its official social media platforms. A notice released by the Board on Wednesday framed the event as a significant milestone in its leadership journey and extended an invitation to the public to tune in. “Join us for the live broadcast of the official handover ceremony as Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the outgoing Registrar of JAMB, formally hands over to Prof. Segun Aina,” the notice stated.
Oloyede’s exit brings to a close a tenure widely regarded as transformative for the Board, with Tinubu voicing confidence that Aina would not only sustain those reforms but strengthen JAMB’s operations in the years ahead. Friday’s ceremony effectively draws the curtain on one chapter of JAMB’s history while opening another under its youngest ever Registrar.
