A newly commissioned Mega Professional Registration Centre (PRC) in Maiduguri is expected to significantly ease tertiary admission processes for candidates across Borno State and the wider North East, following its inauguration by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The N1 billion facility, funded entirely by the Borno State Government, was formally unveiled by outgoing JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, alongside his successor, Professor Segun Aina, in a ceremony that also drew Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Spanning 5,300 square metres of fenced and landscaped land, the centre is equipped with a 300kVA transformer for power supply and houses a main office complex containing eight offices, three conference rooms, four registration areas and 16 convenience facilities.
Central to the facility are two Computer Based Test (CBT) halls, each fitted with 275 computers, bringing total capacity to 500 candidates per session and as many as 2,000 candidates daily whenever examinations are underway. Two waiting areas, together able to hold 500 candidates, along with six extra convenience facilities, were also built to improve candidate comfort during examination days.
Governor Zulum laid the foundation for the project on 24th February 2026, and construction wrapped up in under six months, beating the completion deadline he had originally set for the contractors.
At the commissioning, Oloyede described the centre as a monumental contribution to education in the North East, crediting Zulum’s administration with easing long standing admission challenges faced by candidates in the region. He further disclosed that the JAMB delegation toured several smart schools built by the State Government, describing the visit as evidence of the administration’s commitment to education.
Aina, set to take over as Registrar, commended the collaboration between JAMB and the Borno State Government, calling for it to continue in order to strengthen the Board’s operations within the state.
For his part, Zulum confirmed that his administration had committed more than N1 billion to the project, insisting that its long term value to candidates and the education sector outweighed the cost. He tied the investment to his administration’s broader push to position education as central to addressing Borno’s social and economic challenges, adding that the centre reflects a resolve to deliver world class examination infrastructure for the North East.
The Maiduguri centre now joins JAMB’s network of professional registration centres nationwide, expanding the Board’s capacity to process candidates ahead of future examination cycles.
