The Joseph Onuorah Foundation has intervened to assist 80 financially disadvantaged students across Anambra State by settling their examination fees for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Students from Orumba North and South local governments make up the beneficiaries, with 55 categorised as indigent, while 25 qualified based on merit. The recipients lauded the foundation’s timely intervention, describing it as potentially transformative for their educational futures.
The students pledged to vindicate the foundation’s investment through academic excellence and discipline. They declared, “We thank the benefactor for easing the financial burden that would have hindered our academic pursuits. This gesture will renew our confidence and determination to succeed. We’ll also justify the investment made in our education, and the noble aspirations of the foundation toward building a better future through learning and human capital development.”
Dr Joseph Onuorah, who leads the foundation, characterised the scheme as a continuation of efforts to democratise educational opportunities for young people hampered by economic constraints. He stated that “This initiative forms part of the foundation’s broader mission to support young Nigerians, whose academic ambitions are often constrained by financial hardship. By removing the financial burden associated with JAMB and WAEC registration, the foundation is giving these students a fair opportunity to pursue tertiary education and compete on equal footing with their peers.”
Established in 2015, the JOF functions as a charitable entity focused on uplifting disadvantaged Anambra residents through educational programmes and community welfare projects.
Separately, the Eric Anyamene Foundation has underwritten JAMB registration costs for over 500 students in Idemili North and South Federal Constituencies, with promises of scholarships for top performers. Engineer Eric Anyamene disclosed plans to expand coverage to 1,000 students before year’s end, noting that “Currently, I have 20 students on scholarship, those who scored highest and got admitted. If you study hard, score the highest, and get admission, I’ll pay for your school fees.”
