The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has sponsored the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration for 400 pre degree and remedial students at the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUAST), Ihugh, as part of efforts to expand access to higher education in the state.

The sponsorship was announced during the governor’s inspection visit to the ongoing construction of student hostels at the newly established university, where he commended the progress of work and restated his administration’s dedication to providing quality education for the people of Benue State.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, Governor Alia described education as a key driver of development and pledged that his administration would continue to harness its potential to transform the state.

Chief Iorpev explained that the sponsorship was intended to encourage students to pursue higher education and position them to contribute to the state’s development. Governor Alia noted that quality education is crucial to the growth and development of Benue State, especially in the areas of agriculture and entrepreneurship.

He stated that his administration’s emphasis on education is aimed at equipping the people of Benue, particularly young people, with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete in the global economy.

The governor also referenced the recent launch of the Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Unenrolled Pupils (BRACE UP) project, which seeks to ensure that no child of school age is excluded from education. He described the initiative as a vital part of his administration’s strategy to promote education and reduce poverty in Benue State.

Governor Alia urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunities provided to them, including the free JAMB registration, to pursue their academic ambitions and make meaningful contributions to the development of Benue State.
