Police have filed charges against five suspects accused of hacking into JAMB’s server during the 2026 UTME Computer Based Test, with the matter set to be heard before the Federal High Court. The Inspector General of Police filed a six count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/300/2026 on May 22 through prosecuting counsel Faith Dimka, before Justice Musa Liman in Abuja.

The accused, identified as Ojiyovwi Miracle, Goodluck Ovuijeddo, Dennis Uvietesivwi, Ransome Monday, and Hilda Ejohwemu, are all residents of Delta State. The charges they face cover cybercrime, examination malpractice, and cheating.

The charge sheet alleges that the defendants conspired to gain unlawful access to a computer system and commit computer related fraud. It further claims that on April 20, 2026, the group, acting without authorisation, remotely infiltrated the JAMB server by installing software known as RADMI on over 200 systems used for the UTME CBT. Prosecutors stated that the software allowed the systems to be operated remotely for fraudulent purposes and was used to extract data considered vital to national security.

Additional counts accuse the defendants of causing loss of property to JAMB by altering, erasing, inputting, and suppressing examination data for their own economic benefit. They are also charged with conspiring to commit examination malpractice, using fraudulent devices and false pretences to obtain UTME question papers, and inciting others to engage in malpractice during the exercise.

The first three counts fall under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024, while the remaining counts are punishable under the Examination Malpractice Act, 1999 (LFN 2004).

At the resumed hearing, the case could not proceed as scheduled. Justice Liman observed that since all five defendants reside in Delta State, transferring the matter to the court’s Delta division would allow for faster prosecution. Counsel for the IGP and lawyers representing the defendants raised no objections to this proposal, and the judge ordered the case file returned to the central registry for transfer.
