Thirty students from the Gwara community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State have received free JAMB registration forms from the Chairman of the Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar.
The initiative, according to Oscar, is designed to ease the financial burden faced by families who struggle to sponsor their children to higher institutions. He said many capable students are unable to further their education due to economic hardship.
While presenting the forms, the youth leader called on the Rivers State Government to restore the State Scholarship Board, which he described as a critical support system for academically qualified students from poor backgrounds.
“I want to call on the government in place to see how they can go back to the system where Rivers state government was giving out scholarships because not everybody or every family is buoyant enough to sponsor their children to school. And that’s why there is a high level of prostitution, stealing, and crime in our society, because so many people in school are using every means possible to graduate because their parents cannot afford their fees anymore.
”Our Rivers State Scholarship Board must come up so that qualified people can get scholarships from the state government,” he said.
Oscar added that the gesture reflects his commitment to promoting education and positive development within his community.
