The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Oloyede, has praised Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for approving the construction of a JAMB zonal office and Computer Based Test centre in Maiduguri, a project valued at over N1 billion.
The ceremony took place on Monday along Maiduguri Dikwa Road, marking the commencement of what Prof. Oloyede described as one of the best multi centre CBT facilities in the country.
Governor Zulum had allocated land for the project and directed the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) to issue a Certificate of Occupancy. The governor stated that the initiative was designed to bridge gaps in merit and catchment area quotas in federal tertiary institutions for candidates from Borno State.
Prof. Oloyede explained that the zonal office will serve Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, and that the CBT centre’s capacity will allow candidates registering for JAMB in Borno to complete the process within two days.
He disclosed that once completed, the facility will house a Professional Registration Centre where students can register for examinations and proceed directly to the examination hall to write their tests. The centre will be equipped with 275 computers in one section and another 275 in a separate section, enabling 500 students to write examinations at the same time.
“It also means that JAMB will be able to clear 2,000 students within two days with the facility,” Prof. Oloyede stated.
He commended the governor’s commitment to education, describing it as the kind of leadership Nigeria requires. “We pray God continues to guide you; you’re doing your best. May God continue to empower you,” he said.
In his address, Governor Zulum said his administration was determined to contribute meaningfully to education in Borno State, particularly as JAMB transitions fully to digital operations. “I promised that in each of the senatorial zones of the state, we shall establish a CBT Centre. The zonal office will cost N667 million, while the CBT Centre will cost N330 million. The job will be completed very soon, and the government shall make all the payments,” the governor stated.
