Nearly 25,000 students attending public secondary schools in Bauchi State will have their examination fees paid by the state government following Governor Bala Mohammed’s approval of N888,507,400 for the purpose.

Jalaludeen Usman, Information and Public Relations Officer at the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, announced the development in a statement released on Friday.

The funding will cover registration costs for multiple examinations, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, the National Examinations Council, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, alongside Computer Based Test training.

A total of 6,562 students will have their JAMB registration and CBT training covered, while 22,646 will be registered for NECO. Another 2,064 students will sit NABTEB examinations, and 207 will write the NBAIS exams, all at no cost to their families.

Usman said Governor Mohammed’s decision was driven by the need to reduce the financial pressure on households and open doors for more young people to access tertiary education. “The Bauchi State Ministry of Education extends its warmest appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for finding these students worthy of such a strategic investment,” he stated.

He described the move as more than financial relief, calling it a deliberate effort to build human capital and strengthen the state’s education system. Usman added that the intervention ensures no student in Bauchi’s public schools is shut out of critical examinations simply because their family cannot afford the fees.

The ministry reiterated its focus on policies that improve learning outcomes and create conditions for academic success across all levels of education in the state.
