Ayodele Asalu Celebrates Decade of Educational Empowerment With Free JAMB, WAEC Forms for 1,000 Students
An All Progressives Congress chieftain, Mr. Ayodele Asalu, has marked ten years of educational support by distributing free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and West African Examination Council registration forms to 1,000 indigent senior secondary school students in Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency.
The forms were presented on Wednesday during a ceremony held in Ejigbo, Osun State, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the initiative. The event drew students, parents, teachers, and members of the APC in the constituency.
Asalu, who launched the programme in 2016, said the scheme was created to ensure that brilliant but indigent students were not denied access to higher education because of financial hardship. “Year on year, we increased the number of beneficiaries to accommodate rising needs and expand the reach of our intervention. Today, ten years after I first launched the idea, we have distributed over 7,000 WAEC and UTME forms in this Local Government and Federal Constituency,” he stated.
He disclosed that this year’s distribution provided WAEC forms to 450 students and UTME forms to 550 students, with all WAEC beneficiaries automatically receiving JAMB registration as well.
On the selection process, Asalu explained that students were chosen from 20 public secondary schools in Ejigbo, with the top 15 students from each school selected. Additional beneficiaries were nominated through religious bodies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure fairness and broad coverage.
Asalu urged students and their parents to make the most of the opportunity by committing themselves fully to their examinations. He also called on other privileged Nigerians to offer similar support to less privileged citizens, saying such acts would help ease the burden of the harsh economy and promote peace and harmony across society.
In 2024, approximately 600 students from 20 secondary schools in Ejigbo Local Government Area received free WAEC and UTME registration forms under the same scheme.
