Ten thousand students in Enugu State will sit the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination without paying registration fees, following the launch of a free registration scheme by the South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA).
The programme was officially launched yesterday by the National Coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere, who said the initiative was aimed at eliminating financial barriers that prevent qualified students from accessing tertiary education.
Enwere stated that the scheme was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said prioritises youth empowerment, education reform, and inclusive national development. He described the intervention as more than just examination registration support.
“This programme is not charity; it is strategic empowerment. When we educate our youth, we secure our economy. When we empower our students, we strengthen our nation,” he said, framing the move as an investment in the future and a way to equip the next generation to contribute to the development of both Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole.
Enwere pointed to ongoing federal education sector reforms, including efforts to stabilise relations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as part of broader government measures to improve access to higher education.
He urged students to approach their preparation with diligence and to make the most of the opportunity, while calling on parents and guardians to continue supporting their children’s academic journeys.
