Candidates who incurred charges repeatedly attempting to check their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results will receive no refunds, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has declared, as the board faced mounting criticism over a prolonged delay in releasing scores from the Friday, April 17 examination.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin dismissed the refund demands outright, questioning the basis of the complaints.

“Why would you say they deduct money for something that has not been released? When we release results, we will tell Nigerians. So what refunds are you talking about? If they check, how is that supposed to be our business?” he stated.

The controversy began on Saturday when Benjamin posted on X that results would be released before midnight, urging followers to monitor his account for updates. The board failed to meet that timeline, drawing frustration from thousands of candidates who had sat the examination the previous day.

By Sunday, Benjamin issued a public apology, attributing the delay to the unavailability of JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede, who had been in Lagos for an engagement.

“Our Chief Executive was unavailable due to an important engagement but would be in the office today, and we assure you that the results will be released later today, surely before nightfall,” he disclosed.

“We also extend our heartfelt apologies to those who stayed up waiting for the release. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” he added.

Benjamin confirmed to TheCable that Oloyede had since returned to Abuja and that result processing could not be handled by any other official in his absence.

“The result is a very sensitive matter. It’s not something he can delegate. But he is back now. We are going to release the result soon,” he noted.

Despite the assurances, candidates continued to report deductions from repeated checking attempts on the JAMB portal, with many taking to social media to demand compensation. The board, however, maintained that no official release announcement had been made and, therefore, no liability existed.

On Sunday evening, Benjamin posted again on X, reiterating that results from the Friday, April 17 examination would be released within hours.
