Candidates checking the JAMB matriculation list and not finding their names have been given clarity on why, following an explainer released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The Board used a video posted on its official X handle on Friday to walk candidates through three specific scenarios that could explain the omission, ranking one of them as the most critical to address.
The most important, JAMB noted, is a failure to print the original JAMB result slip and admission letter. “You have not printed your JAMB original results slip and admission letter,” the Board stated, directing candidates in this category to visit the nearest JAMB office or an approved Computer Based Test centre to get the documents printed.
A second scenario involves institutions that have yet to forward candidates’ verified matriculation details to JAMB. “Your institution admission office has not forwarded your verified matriculation details to JAMB,” the Board explained, advising candidates to follow up directly with their institutions and confirm the process has gone through on the Central Admissions Processing System, JAMB CAPS.
The most frequently encountered issue, however, relates to admission status. Candidates who have not accepted their admission on JAMB CAPS, or whose status reads “not admitted” make up the bulk of affected cases. “Number one is the most common, while number three is the most important. You have not accepted your admission on JAMB CAPS, or your admission status reads not admitted,” JAMB said, adding that those in this category should return to their institutions to have their admission processed. “If it reads not admitted, return to your institution to process your admission,” it advised.
The matriculation list carries weight beyond a simple name check. It is JAMB’s official confirmation that an admission was processed through CAPS rather than granted outside the approved system, and institutions rely on it alongside their own records to validate candidates. It also feeds directly into eligibility for National Youth Service Corps mobilisation, since NYSC uses the list to confirm that prospective corps members were properly admitted through JAMB. Candidates whose names remain absent after resolving the three issues raised by the Board are typically advised to approach their institution’s admissions or student affairs office with their result slip and admission letter for manual verification.
JAMB used the opportunity to remind candidates to stay connected to its official platforms, noting that further updates on the matriculation list would be communicated through its verified social media channels.
