The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued a sharp warning to accredited Computer Based Test centres across Nigeria, declaring that any centre whose surveillance systems cannot be viewed in real time from the Board’s central control room faces immediate sanctions, including the invalidation of registrations and the forfeiture of payment for services rendered.

In a statement signed by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the Board disclosed that over 150 of its 989 approved centres were found to be invisible during remote monitoring conducted in the recent registration exercise. Those centres were denied payment. While the Board initially considered cancelling all registrations conducted during the affected periods, it opted instead for further verification using an additional layer of remote monitoring before inviting the affected centres for a meeting and issuing an ultimatum to rectify their technical failures.

“Such centres may also forfeit payment for services rendered,” the statement warned, adding that any centre that becomes unviewable during examinations will be immediately delisted. JAMB confirmed that payments will only be processed upon confirmed compliance with visibility requirements.

The Board explained that the policy is central to its commitment to transparency and integrity across all operations, enabling continuous nationwide supervision of examination activities. It added that the crackdown has already led to the delisting of several non compliant centres, and urged candidates to be mindful of the measures in place and to adhere strictly to examination guidelines.

For the hundreds of thousands of candidates preparing to sit this year’s UTME, the warning carries a direct consequence. A candidate registered at a centre that falls foul of JAMB’s monitoring requirements risks having that registration invalidated, through no fault of their own, making the choice of CBT centre more consequential than many candidates may realise.
